Top 5 Hitchin Highlights
Our B and B guests often ask us where they can go and what they can do during their stay with us. We always recommend a trip to Hitchin. The town is always buzzing with its wonderful restaurants, CAMRA pubs and bars. Whether you are looking for a casual pizza or an a la carte meal there are plenty of options available to suit all culinary tastes and wallets.
Hitchin Town Centre
Hitchin’s quaint square often holds outdoor market events for foodies where local produce is on offer. Some of the eagled eyed among you will recognise it from the fantastic hit series ‘Doctor Foster’ starring Suranne Jones. Some of the tense, dramatic scenes were filmed in Hitchin town centre!
Hitchin Lavender Farm
If it’s the great outdoors that takes your fancy we often suggest checking out Hitchin Lavender Farm. It’s a great place to visit for both adults and children. When the lavender & sunflowers are in full bloom you can enjoy picking them to take home to enjoy. Its tea room serves lovely food & wonderful cakes in the converted barn next to the fields. You’ll also find a well-presented shop selling some unusual gifts. Free parking is available on site to visitors.
Swimming in Hitchin
On a hot sunny day, Hitchin’s outdoor swimming pool can resemble a tourist beach in Europe! It is open during the spring and summer months. During less favourable weather, you can enjoy two indoor heated swimming pools.
Queen Mother Theatre, Hitchin
For entertainment, visit the Queen Mother Theatre… it never disappoints. The team at Lodge Farm House B&B have seen many high-quality shows there. The programme is varied, with something for everyone – and the bar offers bargain priced refreshments. For a full list of everything that is on, go to www.queenmothertheatre.org.uk.
St Mary’s Church, Hitchin
Sitting alongside the River Hiz, St Mary’s church is the centrepiece of the town and the largest Parish Church in Hertfordshire. Dating back to the 14th & 15th centuries it is a beautiful piece of architecture; the stained glass and stonework are superb. Occasionally, the church tower is opened to the public and you can climb to the top and overlook the town, market place and river. Don’t forget your camera!
We hope that our Hitchin highlights have given you some ideas about what to do during your stay with us at Lodge Farm House. However, with its warm atmosphere, lovely gardens, wonderful views and beautifully decorated comfortable rooms you may not want to leave the grounds of our wonderfully peaceful guest house!! We look forward to welcoming you soon.
